REPLACING TRADITIONAL FASTENING METHODS

The 3M™ VHB™ tape is quickly replacing more traditional fastening methods such as welding, screws, bolts and rivets.

It offers a range of benefits such as - spreading the stress load across the entire length of the joint, no weld marks or heat spots, it doesn't damage the surface and keeps wastage to a minimum. It also helps aid productivity, moving on to the next production stage quickly.

WHAT DOES VHB TAPE STAND FOR?
Very High Bond Tape

WHAT IS 3M™ VHB™ TAPE USED FOR?
3M™ VHB™ tape is used to bond, seal and attach substrates such as metals, plastics and glass. It is often used to replace mechanical fastening methods such as screws, rivets, welding etc.

WHAT IS THE IDEAL APPLICATION TEMPERATURE FOR VHB TAPE?
Ideal application temperature range is 70°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C).
Pressure sensitive adhesives use viscous flow to achieve substrate contact area.
Minimum suggested application temperatures: • 50°F (10°C):  3M™ VHB™ Tapes 5952 and RP families. • 60°F (15°C):  3M™ VHB™ Tape 4941 family.

Note:  Initial tape application to surfaces at temperatures below these suggested minimums is not recommended because the adhesive becomes too firm to adhere readily. However, once properly applied, low temperature holding is generally satisfactory. To obtain good performance with all 3M™ VHB™ Tapes, it is important to ensure that the surfaces are dry and free of condensed moisture.

BEFORE SELECTING A VHB TAPE, WHAT FACTORS SHOULD YOU CONSIDER?
If you haven't previously used a VHB tape before for this application. You should consider the following before purchasing - the seal, substrates, environment, application, temperature and load.
